THIRTY YEARS OF BARBARISM

Barry M. Grider
Of all the dastardly deeds promoted by those in and out of government during my lifetime, none is more alarming and appalling than the 1973 Supreme Court decision, Roe vs. Wade, which legalized the killing of unborn babies. As America approaches the 30th shameful anniversary of the court's ruling, January 22, millions of children have lost their lives in what should be the safest place on earth, their mother's womb. While abortion is the most barbaric assault on innocent human life that has ever been orchestrated, how can so many Americans support the "right to choose" the taking of these little ones. Are most of our fellow citizens that cold, callous, and cruel? The answer is no. However, the anti-life forces have successfully duped the American people into believing that babies in the womb are not real people. Well, if not real people, what are they? Do not bother to tell a loving mother or father that the child's heartbeat is not real or what they see moving around on a sonogram is not really a baby.

It is very important for the anti-life forces to maintain that a fetus is not a human being, for if Americans ever wake up and see for real what is happening, this slaughter of little children will cease. Likewise, when someone with a heart considers the vicious procedures used by abortionists or looks upon the dead bodies of aborted babies (see article on page 4) this practice will have to come to an end. Did you know that an abortion can be performed not only in the third trimester of a pregnancy, but, likewise, even as the child is in the birth canal. Prayerfully, this procedure known as partial birth abortion, will be outlawed by the newly elected Congress.

What is wrong with abortion? Simply, it is the taking of innocent human life. Life that was given by God.

"For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there were none of them" (Psa. 139:13-16).

God said to Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth from the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations" (Jer. 1:5). Jesus said of the children, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea" (Mt. 18:6). Again, the Lord says, "Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them" (Mt. 7:12).

Dr. Bernard Nathanson ran one of the largest abortion clinics and then suddenly stopped what he was doing. He said, "I am deeply troubled by my own increasing certainty that I presided over 60,000 deaths." Thank God for the courage of Dr. Nathanson.

Furthermore, abortion transgresses the golden rule (Mt. 7:12). Does the insertion of forceps through the cervix to grasp a baby's body, and remove the little one piece by piece sound like something you would desire being done to you? Do you like the thought of being burned alive, which is what happens when saline solution is inserted into the baby's amniotic fluid? Pharaoh, Herod, and Hitler must take a back seat to those who perform and permit abortions. Dear friends, supporting this insanity is unnatural and goes against basic human instincts.

What can we do? Do not let a day go by that you do not pray for abortion to end. Let your voice be heard in your community, at school and on the job. Contact your representatives in Washington today and urge them to ban partial birth abortions immediately. Vote for only pro-life candidates. Urge mothers who are considering abortion to remember a baby is inside the womb, and if there must be another option, choose adoption over abortion.

President Reagan wisely asked the nation to consider, "the real question today is not when human life begins, but what is the value of human life? ...the real question for (the baby) and for all of us is whether that tiny human life has a God-given right to be protected by the law- the same right we have."

We know the answer!
